Institute of Aeronautics & Engineering is currently offering two different courses in Aircraft Maintenance Engineering as per the DGCA guidelines.
B1.1Aircraft Maintenance Engineering (Mechanical)
This stream deals with the study on the maintenance of aircraft engines and structure. Students attend a series of practical and theoretical examinations required by DGCA in Civil Aviation Requirement-66.

From classroom to Certifying Engineer
Follow the path every IAE student takes, from the first day on campus to holding a DGCA AME licence.
Step 1
Apply & get eligible
10+2 with at least 50% marks in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. Upper age limit is 23 (relaxed for 3-year engineering diploma or B.Sc. holders).
Step 2
Classroom learning
DGCA-approved syllabus under CAR-66 taught by experienced mentors, with our own training notes, question bank and test series.
Step 3
Hands-on in the hangar
Practical sessions in engine, airframe, instrument, radio and electrical shops on functional aircraft.
Step 4
MRO & airport exposure
Exposure at our own CAR-145 MROs, at airports and air strips, and via tie-ups with Air India, Go Air, Airworks, TAAL and Indamer.
Step 5
DGCA examinations
Appear for the DGCA written examinations and practical assessments required for the AME licence.
Step 6
Licence & career

Career scope
Career scope of an Aircraft Maintenance Engineer
Aircraft Maintenance Engineering is considered a reputed job and no doubt they earn a great salary too. Any airline company which provides air transport hires qualified Aircraft Maintenance Engineers to check their aircraft before take off. They release the Flight Releasing Certificate (FRC) which states that the aircraft is flight worthy.
Apart from airline companies, Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) industries are popular for hiring well qualified Aircraft Maintenance Engineering candidates. There are 114 MROs in India and as the number of aircraft in the air is increasing day-by-day, they surely need more expert hands in the coming days.
Qualifications to become an AME
Candidates who have completed 10+2 with at least 50% marks in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics are eligible to join any Aircraft Maintenance Engineering course at an institute approved by DGCA. The upper age limit to join the Aircraft Maintenance Engineering program is 23, except if you have done a three-year diploma course in any engineering program or BSc after 12th.
The licences issued by the DGCA are for a particular type of aircraft and you will be required to train for each type of aircraft to get the licence for a wide range of aircraft.

Questions students ask us
Who is eligible for the AME course?
Candidates who have completed 10+2 with at least 50% marks in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics are eligible to join the Aircraft Maintenance Engineering course at an institute approved by DGCA.
What is the age limit?
The upper age limit to join the Aircraft Maintenance Engineering program is 23, except if you have done a three-year diploma course in any engineering program or B.Sc. after 12th.
How many seats are available?
As per DGCA, Govt. of India rules, the institute can admit only 30 students per batch in an academic year, so limited seats are available.
Which licence will I get after the course?
Students of the Mechanical stream who clear all DGCA exams are awarded the Aircraft Engineering Licence in Category B1.1, and Avionics students in Category B2. The licence is issued by the DGCA after you pass its examinations.
Is the institute approved?
Yes. The institute is approved by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) to conduct the AME course under CAR-66 & CAR-147, and is ISO 9001:2015 certified.
Do students get practical training?
Yes. Students train on functional aircraft in our own shops and at our CAR-145 MROs, with tie-ups with organisations like Air India, Go Air, Airworks, TAAL and Indamer.
